Sunny Days Ahead
Time Off, longer days, and warmer temperatures, mean we will be spending more time outside. And this week, the weather forecast is Sunny with temps in high 70s. It will be good to get some fresh air in our lungs, but we need to protect our skin from the sun's rays.
It's important to remember that exposure to the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause damage to children's delicate skin. Protecting our kids' skin from the sun is essential to prevent sunburn and reduce the risk of skin cancer. We forget this early in the season, it's usually summertime when we think of sunburn.
Some best ways to protect our kid's skin from the sun is to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher, dress in protective, but breathable clothing such as long-sleeved shirts, hats with wide brims, and seek shade when available.
The sun feels good after these long dark days, but don't kill the sunny vibe this week with sunburn! Take these tips from an experienced parent, then go out and enjoy a Blue Rocks baseball game, Spring Fling at Winterthur, and/or spend some time at your favorite playground with friends.
